We did the Time Warp

I

n 1985 a fun night out was getting a group together to dress in costume with props and going to the theater to act out the Rocky Horror Picture Show as it was rollin on the screen. We screamed, we laughed, and we danced. And Dammit Janet, we knew all the lines. We brought lighters and cans of aqua net to light up the night, tomato sauce, and wore so much make up. And everyone in the theater did the Time Warp.

Let’s do the time warp again!

With a bit of a mind flip, you are into the time flip and your mind will never be the same is my favorite line and that creepy maid was my favorite character, because she had my hair. And that pelvic thrust ….. well everyone did that towards each other while laughing hysterically.

It was a perfect movie, with a perfect cast, perfect laughter, perfect fun and perfect to act out with friends. When Meatloaf rolled in on that motorcycle we screamed and celebrated. And Every time Dr. Frank-n-furter raised his eyebrows we shrieked and laughed!

It was a parody tribute to science fiction and B horror movies from the 1930 - 1960’s. I can’t remember how many times I attended with one group or another. Half our Waffle House crew snuck out mid shift one Friday night and watched it at midnight in the theater inside of Springdale Mall. We screamed, drank blue motorcycles courtesy of Jack o’ Diamonds which we snuck in our bags hoping the Styrofoam cups stood straight and the lids stayed on. No one searched your bags, no one checked for outside food or drinks, no one cared what you brought in as long as you bought a ticket, and that theater stayed packed all year.

Today, Meatloaf, one of the best rock ballad composers of all time according to me died. He was a music master, a love poet and a rock genius. His songs not only contained rock, ballads, classical and opera, they contained stories about me. Just replace Kenny with my friend Jason, and Wasted youth well, that resonates. And it is true, objects in the rearview mirror do look closer than they appear not only is this a realistic view of many things it is a life lesson. One that I keep in my pocket.

If you are brave and open to a little fun, click to listen, stand up and give the Time Warp a try. Don’t worry about who is watching, fun happens when you don’t care.

Peace out – Meatloaf – thanks for the tunes, the laughter, the tears, and the heart.
